1st Africa Youth Agric Festival - August 12, 2014 Abuja, Nigeria – Fresh & Young Brains Development Initiative (FBIN) cordially invites the public to the 1st Africa Youth Agric Festival on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at 9:00am at the National Agric Show Ground, KM 28 Abuja-Keffi Road, Nasarawa State, Nigeria.
The Festival is a key component of the YFarm project initiated by Fresh & Young Brains Development Initiative with the aim of transforming Africa by mainstreaming Youth into Agriculture for shared prosperity, improved livelihoods for inclusive growth and sustainable development. The project aims to establish and promote at least 10,000 youth-led farms and agribusinesses across Africa by 2020, as well as highlight the benefits of farming for youth development and sustainable livelihoods. The goal is to promote a youth-led agribusiness society, reduce poverty and increase active youth participation in sustainable agriculture by 2020.
The Festival provides a unique platform to celebrate African youth in Agriculture, provide networking and direct access to market for youth-led farms and agribusinesses. The Festival will feature the YFarm Award for outstanding youth and Personalities in Agriculture, Youth Hub with Ministers of Agriculture and Youth Development, Launch of YFarm Mobile App, Documentary and Directory of African Youth in Agriculture, Marketplace, and Concert/Open Mic. Highlight of the Festival is the Launch of the Joint Donor Basket Fund for the YFarm Intervention Project (August 2014 – July 2015) during the Special Stakeholders Session.
The Festival will be hosted across Africa annually on August 12 to celebrate the International Youth Day. This maiden edition of the Festival is being hosted by Fresh & Young Brains Development Initiative and Alexijan Consults endorsed by the African Union Commission in collaboration with Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Federal Ministry of Youth Development, National Agric Foundation of Nigeria, Oxfam Nigeria, Office of Senior Special Assistant to President on Youth & Student Matters, Office of Special Adviser to President on Youth Empowerment, Nigeria Youth Parliament, Catholic Caritas Foundation of Nigeria, UNDP, UNV, UN Women, AIDE, Oxfam, Rachvid Ltd, TOPAN, ICAD, NYDA, TPMS Ltd, YouthWASH, NAYD, BudgIT, DMBI, Food Farm News, WE FM, NTA Network, RB Magazine, AYICC Nigeria, CODE, YISA, Gavicky Farms, Ghana Must Go, Big Mo, Chris Okenwa, 360 Media, BudgIT, BluePrint, ITV, Nigeria Pilot, Golden Penny, Kapital FM, Thunder Sound.

YOUTH FARM (Y-FARM) CAMPAIGN
…establishing and promoting 10,000 Youth-led
Farms across Nigeria by 2020
Youth Farm (Y-Farm) Project is a brainchild of Fresh & Young Brains
Development Initiative which is a follow up action on the GROW Champions project
implemented in partnership with OXFAM, Trust Africa and VFS with technical
support from the Federal Ministry of Agriculture.
The project came as a result of recommendations from the Youth and women
in Agribusiness online advocacy platform, National Youth Manifesto on Agric and
the Weekly GROW Tweet Series
The Y-Farm Campaign adopts
a two-pronged approach of promoting youth-led farms and the benefits of farming
for sustainable livelihoods. The campaign is focused on amplifying youth voice (especially young
farmers’ voice) to promote Sustainable Agriculture among the younger generation.

into the Nation’s Youth Employment in Agriculture Programme (YEAP) and
Agricultural Transformation Agenda (ATA)

Agriculture for youth

farmers and agropreneurs
4. To create a platform to enable youth and stakeholders to
appreciate the role of Agriculture in rebuilding the Nation
5. To document sustainable farm practices, challenges and
recommendations from youth-led farms
6. To celebrate youth in Agriculture translated into
specific proposals and recommendations to governments and development partners
at the end of this campaign.
